Raptiva Linked to Serious Infection and Brain Disease

The psoriasis drug Raptiva has been recalled after doctors and scientists determined that Raptiva injections are linked to life-threatening infections and brain disease. Psoriasis is a common disease that many people suffer from, so you may know someone in your family who has taken this dangerous drug in the past.

Raptiva is designed to block the activation of T-cells in the body. People who suffer from psoriasis have overactive T-cells, which cause excess skin to be developed on the body. In 2003, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Raptiva for use in treating psoriasis.

After the drug had been on the market for five years, post-marketing reports and studies determined that the Raptiva is a dangerous drug and that it needed stricter warnings on the label. Patients who have taken Raptiva are at risk for a number of different infections and dangerous conditions, including:

  • Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML)
  • Invasive Fungal Disease
  • Bacterial Sepsis
  • Viral Meningitis

While some of these infections can be treated with other medications, PML is not a treatable disease and it can be fatal. Some of the symptoms of these dangerous side effects include dizziness, impaired speech, and vision problems.

If you or anyone in your family has suffered from opportunistic infections after taking Raptiva, you might be able to recover compensation for injuries. Please contact the experienced personal injury lawyers at Robert W. Kerpsack Co., L.P.A. today to schedule a case evaluation.

Diabetes Drug, Byetta, Linked to Pancreatitis and Death

A fairly new diabetes medication has now been linked to the wrongful deaths and hospitalization of some patients. Byetta, a diabetes medication that was approved to control blood sugar in 2005, has been shown to cause some serious drug side effects.

According to Eli Lily & Company and Amylin, the two companies that market the drug, the benefits of the diabetes drug still out weight the risk. According to a spokesperson from Lily, Byetta has been known to be associated with pancreatitis since 2006, and a warning has been placed on the prescribing information since 2007.

As of now, the association between pancreatitis and Byetta is still not well established, and scientists are looking to see how and if Byetta triggers pancreatitis in certain individuals. One of the reasons doctors are unsure if Byetta is a dangerous drug or not is because the people who take it are already more at risk for developing pancreatitis.

The pancreas is one of the organs in the body that creates insulin and helps digest sugar. Byetta is designed to help people process sugar and increase insulin in the blood stream, which is why it is suspected of causing pancreatitis as a dangerous side effect. People suffering from type 2 diabetes are already about three times more at risk for suffering from pancreatitis than other people.

If you or someone in your family has suffered from pancreatitis or even a wrongful death after taking Byetta, you may be able to recover compensation. Please contact the personal injury attorney at Robert W. Kerpsack Co., L.P.A. in Columbus, Ohio today to schedule your initial case evaluation.

Wrongful Death after Pedestrian Accident Still Unclear

An Ohio pedestrian was fatally hit by an SUV on the evening of July 15, 2009, but witnesses of the pedestrian accident are giving conflicting statements. Some of the people who saw the auto accident happen claim that the man was hit by just a Lexus SUV, but others claim that the man was struck by a different SUV first, which then fled the scene.

Wrongful death accidents
like this are incredibly hard for the surviving family members to deal with. A wrongful death attorney like Robert W. Kerpsack Co., L.P.A. in Columbus, Ohio will investigate the circumstances of the pedestrian accident to find out what exactly happened and hold them responsible for the injuries suffered by the victim and their family.

The police who are investigating the accident initially reported that the man was struck by an SUV and the SUV then fled the scene. Now, they are saying the accident was not a hit and run and that they know who killed the man.

After the initial collision, the man was taken to Miami Valley Hospital so he could be treated for the severe brain injuries he suffered. The injuries, however, were too severe and the man died at the hospital.

If you are suffering after the wrongful death of a loved one, you can recover compensation to help pay for their medical bills and funeral costs, among other damages. Please contact Columbus, Ohio personal injury lawyer, Robert W. Kerpsack Co., L.P.A. today to schedule your free case evaluation.

SUV/Auto Accident Injures Seven People in Ohio

On July 11, 2009, an SUV was making a left hand turn across a stretch of Ohio highway when it was struck by another passenger car. The accident was so forceful that it caused the SUV to roll over completely before coming to a rest.

The driver and 5 passengers within the SUV, as well as the driver of the other car, were all transported to a local hospital so their injuries could be treated. Fortunately, none of the people involved in the motor vehicle accident were killed and none suffered very serious injuries.

One of the interesting aspects of this SUV accident is the location. Local residents and witnesses said that the intersection where the auto accident took place has caused many different accidents in the past. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), however, does not believe the intersection is dangerous enough to require changes to be made.

This is an excellent example of a why an experienced auto accident lawyer should be contacted to help victims of car accidents. A car accident attorney will research the history of the intersection and the factors involved this auto accident to determine who is liable for the injuries suffered.

If you or your family member has been involved in an auto or SUV accident, please contact one of the experienced auto accident attorneys at Robert W. Kerpsack Co., L.P.A. in Columbus, Ohio.

Changes to Ohio Law Keeps Kids Buckled Up

New changes to an Ohio law will change the requirements for when children can ride in the car without a booster or child-seat. One of the reasons the law has been changed is so that children do not suffer as many injuries in car accidents in the future.

At the moment, the seatbelts in vehicles better protect children that are at least 80 - 100 pounds and are at least 4 feet 9 inches tall. In past, child passenger laws simply stated that children who outgrew the limits of their forward-facing child-seats could sit in the backseat with regular seatbelts.

The changes to the child passenger law now requires all children who are younger than 8 years old or less than 4 feet 9 inches tall to ride in a properly fastened child-seat or booster seat. In the future, parents driving children who are not in compliance with the law will receive a $75 ticket. Right now, officers will simply inform parents that it is illegal for children to ride without a booster or child-seat if they are below the requirements.

The changes to this law should help curb the number of child whiplash, brain injures, and other serious injuries. The changes to the law will take place on October 7, 2009.

If you have a child that has been injured during an auto accident, you may be able to recover compensation from the negligent driver. Please contact one of the experienced auto accident lawyers at Robert W. Kerpsack Co., L.P.A. to schedule an initial claim evaluation.

Woman Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit for Her Deceased Son

An Ohio woman has filed a wrongful death lawsuit to attempt to regain compensation for the death of her son. The lawsuit claims that the helmet her son was wearing at the time of he was involved in an accident was defective, contributing to his death.

The woman’s son was killed in a 2007 motorcycle accident that involved another motorcyclist. The two were racing down the road in excess of 90 mph when the second motorcyclist hit the woman’s son. The impact caused the son to be thrown into the air and hit a tree.

During the motorcycle accident, the helmet’s chinstrap became separated from the helmet, which allowed the man to suffer a severe head injury. The skull fracture that occurred after the motorcycle accident is what ultimately led to his death.

According to the motorcycle accident lawsuit, the other motorcycle driver that hit the woman’s son is listed as the negligent party, the seller and manufacturer of the helmet is also listed as liable for injuries for making a defective product, and there are other parties listed in the lawsuit who contributed to her son’s wrongful death.

If you or someone in your family has been injured from a motorcycle accident or defective product, please contact the experienced personal injury lawyers at Robert W. Kerpsack Co. L.P.A.
